The understanding and studying of qigong by our ancestors are emphasis physical practice even more esteeming perceptual knowledge. For instance, the expression of "light", "image", "figure", "shadow", "idea" are all experienced during qigong exercising and the feelings of "bloating", "numbness", "cold", "heat" and "pain" etc. are real reflection of the result of doing the practice. They are the recognization of physical effects. There is a simultaneous recognition of non-physical, or non-material occurence from the mind. Our ancestors developed a detailed knowledge of qi and described a lighter qi that floating upward forming the blue heaven and a heavy qi center downward forming the earth. A smaller kind of qi represents the strength in the human body and the spirit in all things on earth. That is what is mean by the "qi" in "qigong". The qi that forms heaven and earth is the broadest definition. While the qi in "qigong" is comparatively more narrowly defined.

In its meaning, qi refers to the general characteristics, while the narrow meaning gives specific characteristics. Thurs the broad meaning of qi embodies within it the narrow meaning and the latter expresses some characteristics of the former. This is very much like our use of the concept "man", which is also divided into a broad meaning and a narrow one.

The "qi" in "qigong", which is from yet mingled in the "qi" in space, is of the most spiritual kind. Therefore, a special kind of exercise is required to obtained it.

What actually is the "qi" in space?
Our ancestors have got a clear understanding about "qi". "The lighter qi floating upward form the blue sky and the heavy qi centered downward and form earth." Here "qi" can be thought of practically as tiny material particles in space. The law of motion described "qi" as follows: Light and blue things float upward forming clear and infinite sky. Heavy and turbid things sank and formed the ground (the earth, the stars and nebula). This in fact not only is the recognition of the motion of material during the period of chaos but also the interpretation of the phenomenon even now is often perceivable- quantities of tiny particals are found floating in the sky. Only the light and blue ones can keep floating in the air, but heavy and turbid things are doomed to sink eventually to the ground.

This thus is the broadest interpretation of "qi". The original qi and the characteristic of "qi" of narrow interpretation as well.

Keep the mentioned in mind, the real source of the "qi" in "qigong" can be understand. It is from space, a special thing have both material and spiritual characteristics.

Examined the material and spiritual characteristic of "qi" in "qigong", shows its material characteristic in three ways:

• Reveals its existence through energy. When it is touched by the body of man, corresponding feelings arise, such as "bloat", "numb", "cold", "pain", "itching", "unconscious movement", "a stream of air running in the body" etc. The bodily experience is similiar when other energies such as electric energy, thermal energy etc. are touched by the human body. The difference ties on the fact that appliances have been made to detect the existence of electric and mechanically produced energies but no method has yet been found to detect the existence of "qi". There is as yet no scientific measure to fulfill the task.
  One of the author's students, a retired worker of the basic engineering company, often detects a feeling of electric stroke when he is receiving "qi" and exercising "qigong" as per the author's instruction, and finds electric sparkles appearing between his two hands. When issuing "qi" to treat the patients of the oppositie sex, the electric strokes are felt in both sides and electric sparkles can also be perceived. This phenomenon shows that it emphazies the ways shown in his body through the measure of electric energy.
  As the "qi" field (biological field) differs in everybody, each obtain a different feeling when he touches it. e.g. some feel electric energy more while others feel more with light energy and magnetic energy.
  
• "Qi" moves in the air in the same manner as the motion of molecules. In daily life. We can often smell the fragrance of flowers, the pleasant odors of food and others. This is because the nose of man absorbs the material molecules with odors coming from near places. One can accept this reason even with less knowledge of physics. During "qigong" exercise, a practitioner can be absorbed and smell odors from long distance and faraway. When the exercise stop, the condition of smelling of odors disappearance.
  After one has realized its hows and whys, we can understand that the process of the exercising and receiving "qi" are practically the same process of receiving the energy and absorbing the material elements from nature. Moreover, a choking, disagreeable dead body odor will be smelled when the patient suffering from organic disease inflammation (certain organ is deteriorated and decayed) is being treated by the one who acquires a profound and consummate "qigong" skill. It is well explained that the issuing "qi" dissolved the deteriorated parts inside the organ in the body into tiny particles as small as molecules, and discharge and ejected them out of the body. Therefore, the people around the patient will smell such bad odor and its material characteristic is obvious.
  
• It launches outward in the mode of a "field". Like an electric field and magnetic field. While a "qi" field is launching outward, it also forms spirals moving as waves urge waves. It is out of the question for a man with strong issuing ability to launch the "qi" far, far away; say hundreds or thousands of miles. Facing the fact and good curative effect, the author has to realize the truth of it. In July 1991, witnessed my primitive curing my patient through long distance. One evening, Mr. Ji Xiao Ming, an over sea chinese who had made my acquaintance in 1991 during his visit in China and was then living in The Dominican Republic. He phoned me through international long distance call from the official residence of the secretary of the president of the country and asking me to issue long distance "qi" to cure the mother of his friend, who was suffering from chronic nephrities and the sister who was suffering from migraine. I agreed to offer them an experimental issuing. The interpreter translated the method of receiving "qi". We dropped the line. I began to issue "qi" in sheng Zheng City. They were ready to receive it at the same time. After 15 minutes they called me again and were glad to informat me that they both had detected the feeling and the sister of the secretary found her headache disappeared and suffered no more.

What is the principle of modern medical science? the most fundamental principle is to suit the remedy to the case. Concretely speaking, the medicine is used to replenish the need of the organs in the body so as to solve the factors casuing the illness.

Why man contract diseases? There are only two basic reasons:

• If the organs in human body lack the necessary material elements or the harmful material elements increase, disease will be contracted. They are mostly classified into parenchymal diseases and can be examined easily. We call them diseases of physical material characteristic.
• For man continuous in motion, various physiologic functions within the human body will also be contracted with diseases once the human body falls into a decline and feels run down, or once some obstructions appear. At the beginning, even in a period of time, the ailments of this kind have not yet shown themselves as organic diseases, but they make the patients feel tired and fatigued easily. Though general malaise and aching are felt here and there, yet pathology is hard to detect any ailment can be diagnosed. We classify such symptoms into diseases of a spiritual nature. Once such ailments have turned into parenchymal ones, they will be chronic and difficult to be cured. They are cardiopathy, diabetes mellitus, cerebral embolism, neuropathy, chronic hepatitis, lupus erythematosus, rheumatism and others. Modern medical science has satisfactorily solved the acute ailments evoked by the causes of the first group, yet in curing the ailments evoked by the cause of the second group, or together with the cause of the first one, it shows itself incapable and the curative effects are often found unsatisfactory.

Let's now see the reason why such phenomenon exists?
The basic principle of modern medical science (especially western medical science) is based on material characteristics to replenish material with material (e.g. to replace material elements that the body needs and to neutralize the harmful material elements in the body with medicine), to rid materials with materials (e.g. To incise the infected part or organ) but it lacks an effective means to strength the vitality (physiologic function) and the immunity of the human body.

The characteristic of "qigong" agrees with the characteristic of spiritual motion in vitality. Therefore, it is the other half reason regarding why "qigong" can cure diseases as well as the second reason regarding why "qigong" is able to solve the problem of the contraction of diseases in human body.

When discussing the word "spirit", the definition of "spirit" should first be exactly and correctly appreciated.

What is "spirit"? The main idea of spirit is the movable ability that surpasses material characteristics.

Let's take the vitality of human beings itself for example. It possesses such movable ability that surpasses material characteristic and it adheres to material (human body), acts on material (human body), but material is by no means equal to vitality. Therefore, the phenomena "decrease coming upon the man without any ailment" are the best testimonies.

Should material be equal to vitality, the number of materials that form various organs in the human body would not decrease and what is more, should all organs in the body contract no disease, then the vitality would continue to exist. But the fact proves the contrary. Vitality is an existence thing without any trace, form, sign, mark or even shadow. Nevertheless, once it ceases to work, decrease will come upon man and once it is unable to effectively make certain organs work property, the body will not feel normal.

The movable ability of vitality shows itself in two aspects: Action of consciousness and action of superconsciousness.

To a certain degree, it acts as per the will of man. Strong willed and open minded man can persist longer and recover quicker when they contract diseases. This is the expression of vitality in conscious action.

In most cases; however, it does not obeys the will of the body but acts independently on its own to work actively or slows down until it is exhausted. This action of the superconsciousness of vitality will produce either favorable or unfavorable effects on the health of the human body. When it is in its vigorous and exuberant state, as in youth, it creates good effect, so slight wounds or minor ailments can be quickly recovered from without any need to take medicine, but only by the automatically adjusted affect of its own vitality. If only man's vitality can be managed to keep in vigorous and energetic state and in good automatically adjusted condition, then there are hopeful prospects and outlook in maintaining real health in the human body.

The "qi" in "qigong" possesses coincidentally conscious action and superconscious action. This will be discussed in the other article. Therefore, agrees with the characteristic of vitality. The movable characteristic of vitality of man, through exercising "qigong", can therefore be strengthened. In other words, the physiologic functions of the body are strengthened and unimaginable effects are accordingly obtained in treating some diseases. (This result of strengthening physiologic functions may vary in the messages containing in different styles of "qigong". Therefore, not all styles of "qigong" can strengthen various physiologic functions in human body. Therefore, resulting to the appearance that some diseases can not be cured by certain styles of "qigong".

The author is unable at the present to offer data or the like to explain the proccess regarding the way that "qi" can strengthen man's physiologic functions due to the lack of scientific equipment to give trials and tests, but can provide a number of facts to testify its successful achievements and effects.

"Pan Gu Mysterical QiGong" also known as "Universe, Sun and Moon Qigong" I created. Produced wonderful effects in treating cardiopathy. Patients with heart disease who learned my qigong exercise, practice regularly and now and then attended my lectures (I issue qi during my lectures) obtaining good result. A patient who suffered from cardiac assest caused by myocardial atrophy had once a record of over 10 minutes stop beating was rescued after he had received the treatment of this qigong. Through half years's continuous reciving qi and exercising the Pan Gu Mystical Qigong. The diagnosis showed that his deformed heart grew unexpectedly normal again.

In treating other diseases of physiologic function obtacles and immunity decline, this qigong has also produced miraculous effect. For example, Mr. Fang Nan, a retired professor of Guangzhou Foreign Trade Institute, found senile scares appearing on his arms several years ago, but after several months of practice The Pan Gu Mystical Qigong. The scares disappeared and his skin felt smooth. This phenomenon proves that the qigong has strengthened this physiologic function on his skin.

The most typical case of strengthening the immunity in human body is the fact that a group of patients suffering from lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis who were treated by The Pan Gu Mystical Qigong were recovered. Ms Ye Ping is a teacher of No.97 middle school in Guangzhou City, China. In July 1992, she was diagnosed to have contracted lupus erythematosus. The doctor emphatically told her that there is no cure of such ailment yet be found throughout the world and that it was firmly believed beyond remedy but to control the condition and to take medicine (hormone) at definite time and dose through her life, and the dose of medicine can not be reduced without the doctor's consent. In addition, the doctor added. The patient should avoid getting over tired (get fatigue easily), exposure to sunlight and x-rays as little as possible. Otherwise, the conditionwill grow worse, beyond imagination. Fortunately, Based on the recommendation of her friend, she began to learn The Pan Gu Mystical Qigong in December 1992, then her condition improved. After a subsequent check up on December 27, 1993, the result read that the data showed normal, two lungs are comparatively normal, no infiltration lesion is seen in the lungs, no abnormality is seen in the heart and the lungs.

The many medical examples mentions above make me no alternative but to realize the material, spiritual characteristic of qigong for healing, and to have an overall realization of it so that I will be better grasp the speciality of Pan Gu Mystical Qigong to cure patients with better effect.
